Cosmetic Tattoo FAQs

Is cosmetic tattooing painful?

Most clients describe the sensation as mild discomfort rather than pain. A topical numbing cream is used to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. Sensitivity varies depending on the area treated and your personal pain tolerance. Lips and eyeliner can feel slightly more sensitive than brows. Overall, the treatment is very manageable.

How long does cosmetic tattoo last?

Cosmetic tattoo is semi-permanent and gradually fades over time. On average, results last between 6–24 months depending on skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, and aftercare. Oily skin may fade faster, while drier or mature skin often retains pigment longer. Maintenance sessions help keep colour fresh and defined.

How many sessions will I need?

Most cosmetic tattoo procedures require two sessions: the initial appointment and a perfecting session 6–8 weeks later. For SMP, paramedical camouflage, non-laser removal, and plasma fibroblast, multiple sessions are often required. The exact number depends on your skin, previous work, and desired outcome. This will be discussed during consultation.

What is the downtime?

Downtime varies by treatment. Cosmetic tattoo typically involves mild redness and light flaking for 5–10 days. Plasma fibroblast causes visible crusting and swelling, especially around the eyes, for several days. SMP and paramedical treatments have minimal downtime but require sun and sweat avoidance. Full healing can take several weeks beneath the surface.

Can you tattoo over old tattoo work?

In some cases, yes — but not always. The existing pigment must be light enough and the skin must be healthy. Oversaturated or heavily discoloured tattoos may require removal first. Each case is assessed individually to ensure safe and natural results. Adding pigment over unsuitable work can cause further complications.

What is non-laser tattoo removal?

Non-laser removal is a saline-based method that lifts pigment gradually through the skin’s natural healing process. It does not use heat like laser. Multiple sessions are typically required, and pigment may temporarily darken before fading. It is suitable for cosmetic tattoos and small body tattoos.

Is plasma fibroblast safe?

When performed correctly on suitable candidates, plasma fibroblast is safe and effective. It works by creating controlled micro-trauma to stimulate tightening and collagen production. Swelling, redness, and crusting are expected. Proper aftercare and strict sun avoidance are essential to minimise pigmentation risks.

What is paramedical tattoo camouflage?

Paramedical tattooing is used to soften the appearance of scars, stretch marks, and certain skin conditions such as vitiligo. The goal is blending, not perfection. Scar tissue behaves differently from normal skin, so multiple sessions are usually required. A consultation determines suitability.

Does scalp micropigmentation look natural?

Yes — when done properly, SMP mimics the look of natural hair follicles. It can create density for thinning hair or a clean shaved look. Pigment is matched carefully to your natural hair colour and skin tone. Results soften after healing for a realistic finish.

Who is not suitable for treatment?

You may not be eligible if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, undergoing active cancer treatment, or have infections in the treatment area. Certain medical conditions require doctor clearance. Recent surgery, injectables, or laser in the area may also delay treatment. Full medical disclosure is required.

Can I wear makeup after my treatment?

Makeup must be avoided on the treated area until the skin has fully healed. This typically takes 7–14 days depending on the procedure. Applying makeup too early can increase infection risk and affect pigment retention. You may wear makeup on untreated areas as normal.

What if I don’t like my results?

Your treatment is a process. Initial results appear darker and softer once healed. A perfecting session allows for refinement and adjustments. In rare cases where changes are needed beyond normal touch-ups, solutions such as colour correction or removal can be discussed. Open communication is always encouraged.
